PAT must for entry into CEPT

The Centre for Environment Planning & Technology popularly called CEPT was established in 1962 by the Ahmedabad Education Society and the same year the School of Architecture too came into existence. A decade later, the School of Planning was set up which conducts a number of undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral programmes. To secure an admission at CEPT, one has to take the entrance examination called Planning Admission Test (PAT). The entrance test is held every year and those seeking admission to PG courses, the result of Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) is also considered.

There is a need for urban planners with the growing urban population and shrinking of space and vagaries of weather. After clearing CEPT PAT, a student can enroll for M.Tech in Housing and Infrastructure Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, and Environmental Planning.

Eligibility criteria
Students seeking admission into M.Tech (Urban Planning and Housing) course of CEPT should have secured a minimum of 50 percent in the graduation examination in Planning or Architecture or Civil Engineering. Even those who have done PG in Sociology, Economics and Geography too can seek admission. For SC/ST students the required percentage is 45.

For studying M.Tech Environmental Planning and Infrastructure Planning, a student should have pursued graduation in Planning, Civil Engineering or Architecture from an approved and recognized university scoring more than 50 percent. For SC/ST students the required percentage is 45.

Appearing for PAT
The CEPT conducts a written test along with a group discussion followed by personal interview. Students who have cracked GATE have an advantage of 10 percent during the final selection. The admission forms are to be submitted to the school with a demand draft of Rs 750 in favour of the CEPT University. The CEPT PAT test is conducted at nine centres namely Pune, Kolkata, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Delhi, Bangalore, Cochin, and Chennai.
Employment
Students passing out of CEPT find suitable employment in different public and private organizations. Students find employment in the field of planning & development and management. Many students who undertake internships during summer at NGO's, research and development organizations are absorbed after completing their study.

UG Programme
The CEPT’s Faculty of Planning & Public Policy also conducts a five-year Undergraduate Bachelor of Planning Programme. A student after successful completion of the course is awarded the Bachelor of Planning (B.Plan) Degree, recognised by the Institute of Town Planners India (ITPI) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). After securing this degree, the student can seek employment with the Government Planning Departments at the Urban and State level.

Eligibility
Students wishing to pursue Bachelor of Planning should have passed Class XII or Inter with Mathematics or Statistics and English. In the qualifying exam, they should have secured a minimum aggregate of 50 percent in all subjects. The BC/SC/ST candidates should secure a minimum of 45 percent. Even those awaiting the final results can appear for the exam and provide the details at the time of admission. All the eligible candidates would have to take the Planning Aptitude Test (PAT) to be conducted at Ahmedabad.

According to CEPT, the PAT helps to evaluate the skills of the candidate in Mathematics, Logical Reasoning, Analytical Skills, English language, Imagination, Current Affairs, understanding of Social, Economic and Environmental Issues, Lateral Thinking, Context Analysis, Visual Perception Organizational Principles, Visualizing 3D objects, Scale and Proportions etc.

On payment of Rs 500 in cash or by demand draft drawn in favour of ‘Director, CEPT University’ payable at Ahmedabad, a student can obtain application form from the University.
